In this interactive and engaging class you will learn the basics of NVC, which teaches us to find a common ground in the basic humanity that we all share. Whether you want to take a good relationship to a new level of closeness or you want to heal a painful rift between you and another, in this class you are sure to get insights and practical tools that have the potential to enhance any area of your life.

Communicating with Honesty and Compassion
Led by Lynd Morris
Monday, October 8 (6:30 - 9:00 pm)
Silver Spring, Maryland
$0-$40
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a process created by Marshall Rosenberg Ph.D., that helps connect us with what is most alive in us and in others in the present moment. Using NVC, we become more aware of what limits our ability to give and receive and we learn to reframe how we express ourselves and how we hear others so that all of us are more likely to get our needs met. In this introduction to NVC, we'll explore the basic tools of this transformational process of compassionate communication and will practice applying them to situations from our own lives.
This introduction to Nonviolent Communication will satisfy the request for prior NVC training needed to attend the "Be Free Where You Are" workshop offered on November 3rd (as well as most other intermediate NVC trainings offered in the DC area). For more information or to register for this NVC event, contact lynd@capitolnvc.org

Conflict Improv: Jackal Fighting and Giraffe Connection
October 15, 7-9pm
(next session is planned for November 12)
Location: West End Library (short walk to Foggy Bottom Metro)
Facilitated by: Inessa Love and Mark Thomas
Join us for an improvisational evening with Jackal and Giraffe (the puppets) and human actors which will role-play our real-life situations. BYOC - Bring your own conflicts -small, medium or large - so we can experiment with different ways of approaching difficult situations. We find conflicts endlessly instructive, heart-breaking, and amusing, and we are confident you will too. If you want to decrease your anger or despair and want to increase your joy, compassion and wisdom, please come and play with us. We anticipate this will be a fun evening in which learning, laughter and community will help us to come together and celebrate our shared humanity. The Conflict Improv is inspired by the teaching of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg on Nonviolent Communication (NVC). No prior NVC experience is necessary. FREE! Please RSVP by email to Inessa at dcnvc@hotmail.com or call Mark at 301-801-1293.

Be Free Where You Are
Led by Lynd Morris
Saturday, November 3, 2007 (9:30 AM - 4:30 PM)
Cost: $75-$150, Sliding Scale (work exchange and scholarships are available)
Pre-Requisite: At least 2 hours of prior NVC training (such as the "Communicating with Honesty and Compassion" workshop offered on October 8)
In this day-long workshop we will explore what freedom means to each of us and what blocks us from experiencing freedom in our daily life. We'll identify our deepest values and discern how to live these more fully while simultaneously increasing our awareness of others and all of life. Throughout the day, we will use large and small group work, demonstrations, discussions, and individual NVC exercises and mindfulness practices to expand our NVC skills and experience living peace and freedom in the midst of our every day lives, here and now.
Lynd Morris is a graduate of the 2005 NVC North America Leadership Program led by CNVC-certified trainers Miki and Inbal Kashtan. Lynd is completing her second year in the NVC LIFE Program led by CNVC-certified trainer Robert Gonzales and is registered as a candidate for CNVC certification. She has been a lay member of Thich Nhat Hanh's Order of Interbeing since 1997.

Transforming Workplace Communication: Genuine Connection as Foundation for Harmony and Effectiveness
A customized training program for your organization.
Would you like to get paid for taking NVC classes? Tell your boss that the NVC training program described below can be offered at your workplace!
Research into organizational effectiveness has demonstrated that the single most important factor in maximizing the excellence of a group's product was the degree to which the members were able to create a state of internal harmony and reduce "emotional static" caused by the tensions or conflicts between the team members. The Transforming Workplace Communication program is designed to achieve just that by creating more harmonious, meaningful, effective and enjoyable workplace.
Participants will learn how to handle workplace disagreements and tensions so they don't escalate; how to receive and deliver difficult messages; how to foster collaboration and teamwork and create win-win solutions that recognize and respect everyone's needs and values. The program will also help to create community, comradeship and shared values within your organization. To find out more about the Transforming Workplace Communication training program, email Inessa at dcnvc@hotmail.com.
