Communicating with Life: An Intermediate Workshop

Where: Silver Spring, Maryland (Metro accessible and easy parking)

Cost: $80 - $160 Sliding Scale*
Prerequisite: 5 or more hours of prior training in Nonviolent Communication

This daylong workshop will focus on several Nonviolent Communication (NVC) practices that help us to contact what is most alive in ourselves and communicate this "aliveness" to others in ways that are more likely to be received. We will also explore life-alienating beliefs that may have prevented us from responding instead of reacting to life. And we will practice listening for the aliveness in others, no matter what words they use to communicate it.
In addition to leading a range of NVC workshops and classes in the DC and Richmond areas during the last 3 years, I assisted Robert Gonzales (President of the global Center for Nonviolent Communication, co-founder of the NVC Training Institute, and Director of the NVC LIFE Program) at four of the NVC and spirituality workshops he led around the U.S in 2008. I've experienced profound transformation in my own life as a result of Robert's practices and have seen hundreds of other people deeply touched by them. For this reason, I am particularly excited about presenting a number of Robert's NVC processes that provide direct experience of the energy and vitality at the heart of communicating with full authenticity and compassion.
During "Communicating with Life," we will use several of Robert's processes, supported by mindfulness practices and other NVC exercises designed to enhance self-connection and communicating our aliveness to others--individually, in small groups, and together in our large group. Shortly before this workshop I will have returned from a week-long intensive training with Robert in Mexico and I expect to have even more material to share from that experience.
PLEASE NOTE: Although there will be a reference to NVC fundamentals at the beginning of the "Communicating with Life" workshop, we will not be covering the basic principles of NVC in detail and, for this reason, I'm requesting that registrants attend at least 5 hours of prior NVC training. You can check the "Upcoming Events" sidebar to the right for information about upcoming trainings if you would like a "refresher" prior to this workshop or need more hours of training to meet the prerequisite for this workshop.
* We encourage you to contribute as high on the sliding scale as you are able to, with joy and ease. Some scholarship and work exchange opportunities will also be available.
