Speaking with an Open Heart
Often, when we speak, people don’t hear what we wish them to hear, and the effect of our words isn’t what we hope for. And all too often, fear of the effect of our words blocks us from saying what is true for us. Fear of how we hear our own words may even block us from telling ourselves what is alive in us. The net result can be lives robbed of authenticity, vitality, and connection.
In this afternoon workshop, participants will learn how to share the important messages we want to offer each other in ways that recipients are more likely to be able to hear and more likely to want to respond to in an enjoyable way. Speaking in this way can help us keep our hearts open, head off conflict, and increase intimacy with those with whom we want to be close.
This introductory offering is based on the techniques of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), as developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg. Honest self-expression is a cornerstone of NVC. Participants will benefit from having attended the previous week’s workshop Listening with an Open Heart.
