Listening with an Open Heart

There is magic in listening well. Listening can soothe a wounded heart, open up space for our best thinking, defuse upset and anger, and restore connection when connection has been lost. The key is listening with an open heart.

In this afternoon workshop, participants will learn to listen in ways that are likely to be helpful under a wide variety of circumstances. Empathic listening, listening in a way that hears and honors, is a basic human capacity. This workshop will offer techniques that support us in doing empathic listening, for ourselves, friends and family, and even those whom we sometimes find challenging.

This introductory offering is based on the techniques of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), as developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg. Empathic listening is a cornerstone of NVC.
